A child's first day at Tinytown is a big step into a new world. Some children take this step with confidence. Others find it can be a confusing and frightening experience.

For most children, a settling-in period with a parent present may be necessary if the child is to adapt happily to new surroundings. The length of time and number of visits may vary as this is not a process which can be hurried. We also like parent's to become familiar with our routines. Our professionally trained staff are experienced in settling children and once you learn to trust the staff, your child will also.

Be positive. Don't feel your child's initial distress is a reflection on you as a parent. Do not feel guilty about leaving your child. Every person feels apprehension when going into a new situation, children are no different.

It is now time for you to start work or leave your child for a period of time. ALWAYS tell your child when you are leaving. Give them a kiss and then say "have a good day - I'll pick you up later". Then leave. If necessary hand your child to the trained teacher. Sometimes the longer a parent lingers, the harder the separation process becomes.

Use the telephone during the day to enquire from the trained teacher about your child. Very soon your child will be absorbed in the activities and experiences of their group and will feel quite at home in the centre.
